Whenever you go to an astrologer with your horoscope, you often hear that you are running through the Dasha of a “Karak (Benefic) Planet” or a “Marak (Malefic) Planet”. Today we will discuss this in detail.
What are Karak and Akarak Planets?
Ancient scholars have described the position of planets according to the Ascendant (Lagna).
Karak Planets: In a horoscope, the lords of the Trikona houses i.e., Lagnesh (1st Lord), Panchamesh (5th Lord) and Navamesh (9th Lord) are Karak planets. These planets give special auspicious results in their Dasha-Antardasha and are considered powerful.
Akarak Planets: Those planets which are natural enemies of the Lagnesh are called Akarak. They are considered ineffective.
Marak Planets: According to the Lagna, the lords of the 6th, 8th, and 12th houses are called Marak. In their Dasha-Antardasha, they give sufferings equivalent to death.
To decide Karak and Akarak, scholars have taken into consideration the position of Yogkarak planets (lords of Kendra and Trikona), Badhak planets and enemy planets.
