Shivraj’s ‘3 Lakh Homes’ Gift to Andhra — ‘₹3,600 Crore’ First Instalment, First 3D-Printed Housing Pilot

Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Burripalem (Tenali), Andhra Pradesh Bureau. Andhra Pradesh has received a major housing boost under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin. Union Rural Development and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan laid the foundation stone for 3 lakh houses in the state at Burripalem village in the Tenali region on Sunday and handed over the first instalment of ₹3,600 crore. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was present on the occasion.

The Centre had initially allotted the state only about 75,000 houses under the regular quota, but the number was raised to 3 lakh on the state government’s special request. Chouhan said the Centre would extend full cooperation in Andhra Pradesh’s development — once the current construction is complete, 3 lakh more houses would be allotted, followed by another 3 lakh next year, taking the total allocation to 9 lakh. Naidu said the state government aims to achieve 100 per cent coverage under the housing scheme by 2029.

India’s First 3D-Printed Housing Pilot

At the same event, the two leaders launched the country’s first government 3D concrete-printed housing pilot project. According to the PIB release, 177 houses will be built using 3D-printing technology at Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem at a cost of about ₹14 crore, with a target to complete construction in six months. The project is a joint effort of the Union Rural Development Ministry, CSIR-CBRI Roorkee and the Andhra Pradesh government.

Naidu said the 3D-technology houses are expected to stay about 8 degrees Celsius cooler inside than the outside temperature. If the pilot succeeds, 5,000 more houses will be built with the same technology, making Andhra Pradesh a model state for 3D-technology-based housing.

New Momentum for Rural Housing

Under PMAY-Gramin 2.0, the central government is pushing pucca houses for rural areas. The big package for Andhra Pradesh is set to give wings to the dream of a pucca roof for lakhs of rural families in the state.
