New Delhi Bureau. The Bloomberg New Economy Forum — one of the world’s most prestigious economic platforms — opens in New Delhi today. Over the next three days, 13 to 15 October, the eighth edition of the forum will bring together more than 500 global leaders, business titans and policymakers, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to address the gathering. This is the first time the forum is being hosted in India.

First India edition

For the past five years, the Bloomberg New Economy Forum has been held in Singapore. This year, New Delhi takes over as host — a first. The official theme of the forum is ‘A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power’, reflecting the shifting axes of power in a changing world. The occasion also marks 30 years of Bloomberg’s presence in India.

“Today, India stands at a decisive moment in its journey. India is no longer merely a destination for investment — it is a trusted partner shaping the global future. With the resolve of a Viksit Bharat, we are working to become one of the world’s most reliable engines of growth.” — Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Who’s who on the guest list

Alongside Prime Minister Modi, several senior Union ministers will join the forum — Health Minister J. P. Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Railways and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh.

The global line-up includes Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies founder Michael R. Bloomberg, former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, former US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Blackstone Chairman Jonathan Gray.

The agenda: a roadmap on key issues

The forum will deliberate on trade, energy, critical minerals, technology, capital flows, payment systems and supply chains. Central bank governors, Fortune 100 CEOs, sovereign investors and technology founders will share the stage.

Michael Bloomberg has noted that India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy — making it a fitting host for the forum.

Why it matters for India

As trade equations shift and the world turns multipolar, India’s role keeps growing. Hosting this platform of global economic dialogue in New Delhi is being seen as a marker of India’s rising economic stature. The outcomes and roadmaps emerging from the forum could shape global trade policy in the years ahead.
