New Delhi Bureau. Delhi Police on Wednesday registered a case against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other INDIA bloc leaders for allegedly entering the Akashvani Bhavan premises without permission during the Opposition’s protest against the Election Commission.
According to the police, the case was filed after the protesters entered the premises of the state broadcaster — located next to Nirvachan Sadan, the Election Commission’s headquarters — and refused to leave despite repeated requests, PTC News reported. Details of the sections invoked and the complete list of those named in the complaint were not immediately available.
Tuesday’s March and the Night-Long Standoff
The protest began on Tuesday morning, when more than 300 Opposition MPs marched from Parliament House towards the Election Commission’s office, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the voter-roll revision. Police stopped the march at barricades near the commission’s office and detained more than 250 protesters.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and around 20 other Opposition leaders then moved into the adjoining Akashvani Bhavan campus, where they continued their sit-in until around 8 pm. The leaders were later detained amid a heavy police presence and taken to Kingsway Camp in Delhi; they were released around 10.15 pm, NDTV reported.

“Women Cannot Be Detained After Sunset,” Says Priyanka
In an exclusive conversation with NDTV, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the police action, stating that legally, women cannot be detained after sunset, and questioned the authority under which the police held the women protesters through the night.
“Not a Single Traitor Will Be Spared,” Warns Rahul
After his release, Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the government. In a post on X, the Leader of the Opposition alleged that democracy itself had been dragged to protect its traitors, warning in Hindi: “Hisab hoga — ek bhi deshdrohi bakhsha nahi jayega” (There will be a reckoning — not a single traitor will be spared).
INDIA Bloc Seeks President’s Appointment
According to NDTV’s live updates, the INDIA bloc has sought an appointment with the President in the alleged “vote theft” case. Opposition MPs may march from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 9, according to sources. The BJP has rejected the Opposition’s allegations and criticised the protest.
